Flower Child

I'm having fun with flower crowns and I'm getting the hang of it.  They come together quite organically and the finished product is always so beautiful.

S P R I N G fever

Yes I think I have a fever.  On these beautiful days when the sun is shining I can feel the healing of spring upon us.  The first site of buds on the trees and bushes is so sweet.  Our gardens are so bare and dark and mushy we are ready to welcome life and color.

I am inspired to try my hand at flower crowns.  I love to wear flowers in my hair and I have found so many incredible images of impeccable floral crowns that honestly create a sense of excitement and joy. From natural and woodsy to avant garde and extraordinary.

this space

I admire this creative studio space in New York where amazing work is done with flowers and foliage.
The rustic timber and the exposed brick walls. The huge open spaces lit up with natural light.  So beautiful. You can find many more inspiring photographs here and here. I have mentioned this multi-talented florist several times before and here you can find wonderful photos of when she worked from home before she had her dreamy flower studio.

I sincerely enjoy seeing the comfortable and productive spaces folks create for themselves.

the lovely marigold

How lovely it is to make great use of nature for healing and more
found here

Harvested Calendula, drying to be used in handcrafted healing + moisturizing, lip + body care.  Interesting to know "Calendula has been used medicinally for centuries all over the world-The calendula is an annual flower native to the northern Mediterranean countries. Its name refers to its tendency to bloom with the calendar, usually once a month or every new moon. The term “marigold” refers to the Virgin Mary, and marigolds are used in Catholic events honoring the Virgin Mary. The Egyptians considered them to have rejuvenating properties. In the Hindu world, the flowers were used to adorn statues of gods in their temples, as well as a colorant in food, fabrics, and cosmetics, and of particular interest, in the 18th and 19th century, calendula was used to color cheese. The calendula was originally used as food rather than as an herb." This info comes from Sword+Fern a great little shop+studio on the Oregon coast that I would cherish a visit to for so many reasons.

How dreamy it would be for me to use my own homegrown flowers to color cloth.  One day. One day.

Simply sweet...

I just love what verypurpleperson.com is doing with the small floral print fabric. I am always inspired by the calico cotton and the Liberty of London floral fabrics. There is something so Little House on the Prairie about it and I love the simple farm life images that it brings to mind. My mind is overflowing with inspired thoughts. Thoughts of lantern light, small wood homes, horse drawn carriages and mothers in long cotton floral dresses with aprons draped over to protect it from their hard days work. I love the idea of working outside in a dress and always wearing an apron. I have a special collection of vintage aprons and unfortunately I never seem to remember to put one on.
