land

Two of my greatest friends are proud owners of their own piece of heaven. Raw land. To do with what their dreams determine.  Lets just say it hasn't all been easy but they are in fact making their dreams come true.  My heart smiles with the idea of it all.

They are left with a very limited budget to build their alternative living space and I am excited to see them do great things. Recycling and using what is available to conquer the American Dream in the most unconventional ways. Pulling together resources where they can. Putting supplies to good use that may otherwise just be waisted or thrown away. I think we will be amazed yet again by the beauty one can accomplish using what we have where we can.

My hubby has a passion for green building and meticulous craftsmanship.  Paying great attention to detail is important to him, from hand selecting the locally milled cypress and chiseling the live edge, to applying the black oil soap on the mineral pigmented earth plaster walls to reveal the texture, to the cutting board and fossil set into the concrete counter top.  The counter of concrete with inlayed details throughout is a feat all its own. Stunning work by a good friend and great man John Finley. You can find many more pictures and info of this beautifully handcrafted man cave at revivaltimberworks.com. I am impressed with how luxurious this particular project has come to be. Fit for a bachelor's retreat.

I thought it would be interesting to give ya'll an idea of where most of my current collection of reclaimed copper comes from.  It's projects like these that supply my habit (insert smile).  

My largest supply yet comes from this particular project. A great example of 'nothing going to waste'. It's the remaining cut off scrap from this stunning hand hammered copper backsplash that I cut, shape, sand, polish, patina into whatever happens to be inspiring me. Presently, I am busy designing pieces for my TRI.bal collection which is created using TRIangles in all sorts of ways. Oh the ideas...just wait. A bit eco-couture I think. I will be featuring one or two of these larger pieces at the RAW event in New Orleans later next month.

As well as the, growing in popularity, LA1 Southern Charm collection that represents my love for Louisiana. Where our roots run deep.

A 'little' town called Hobbiton. A magical village hidden on private farm land in New Zealand. Who wants to go?

I especially like how they are set into the earth. I like the large curved aged beams joined with bricks and the overgrown wildflower entrances.  All aside a beautiful lake.  Maybe one day we will build our very own hobbit house fit for our family...

Ahh! Privacy fences what a luxury even when made of reclaimed scrap.  Ours stand 8' and 9' alternately.  We still have a few small portions to complete but the most visible of neighbor is blocked out. How unneighborly of me I know but I am one happy camper!

What a beautiful home!  I love the set up and location for her small family of farm animals and added little touches of decoration that create such a charming environment. And how sweet is that rustic attractive space those sweet critters have to call home, it even has curtains.  I also adore the antler chair, moss covered table setting pictured above and that sunroom!!!

I have mentioned this book before some time ago but have only just began to flip its pages. a setting that is basically our own backyard. only minutes will get you to the banks of the Atchafalaya which truly make her writings more intriguing and subtly familiar. A late Saturday morning, there is a chill in the air but my coffee, handmade afghan and this intimately told story keep me warm and cozy.

maybe it's that it wears its age so well

or it's that rustic texture and color

or maybe because it's rich with history and life

i just really like the construction of this cozy looking home 

with the wreath on the front door, the naked trees and the falling snow

it feels very Christmas to me

 a simple country Christmas

not everything's bigger in Texas

only one state away and I never even new they existed

 doing what my mother, my hubby and myself all have a strong passion for

building and creating with salvaged finds or 'junk'

these homes are exactly our kinda thing

can't wait to show my mom these tiny texas houses
