a day of culture and family

I LOVE these signs so simple and primitive
something so simple inspires me so much
I find it a little funny how much I really like them
I will be making one soon real soon

Here is a peek into our day spent at our local cultural center
to remember the local tribes of Natives
and learn some new things about our local history
I've included some of my favorites and will post more real soon

what a wonderful kids room...
my heart is racing folks

and the kitchen

a special day it was indeed
many many more captures to come
with a little story to tell of Vermillionville a Cajun/Creole cultural center

primitive cajun

I love painting on olde wood
This wonderful painting is a great representation of that
I found this painting at a historic restaurant in a small Acadian town
unfortunately I did not find who the artist was

put to good use...

found here for complete before & after

making good use out of scrap
reclaiming old junk wood to create something so beautiful
I love this...
wood, color, texture
salvaged, primitive, recycled
truly adding an element of handmade to a home

my hubby and his good friend have a passion for this sort of thing too
check their work out here

i love garbage

ok not really
but I do indeed love to salvage from the curb
especially if it is something we need (or just really want)
there is a sort of rewarding excitement that I get

this here screen door is a perfect example
it was black and missing half of the screen on the bottom
but we fixed that...no problem
nothing a simple (not always) scrape and sand can't handle
we kept the original hinges and handle
added some locally milled Cypress
a few cuts to fit and voila
just my style salvaged, rustic, primitive
found, recycled...
so many of my favorite things

I do need to work on remembering to photo my curb findings before
for accurate documentation of the process

much of our home has been created using such findings
it takes some time but it saves some money

Its all coming together...

Our tiny and I mean tiny market of vintage, recycled and handmade.

I just need to actually get there more often. I always seem to get caught up in something else though my day can begin with plans of going there...before I know it its to late in the day...then another week has passed. How does that happen?

Excited with inspiration

I am so inspired and excited with ideas for our new home, specifically the kitchen today, that I feel like I just might explode. Well, maybe its the coffee too but I have only finished half my cup because I am busy searching pics for ideas. I am (always) drawn to primitive, olde world, country farmhouse styles. Yesterday I painted our cabinets antique white and sanded for that primitive appeal...I likey likey! Below I share some pictures that inspire me today! Hope your day finds you excited to create, whatever that may be.

I love these drawer pulls and I think I have some similar somewhere hopefully I can find them

natural and rustic island...love

A tiny market...and I mean tiny!

Coming soon...Bayou Bohemian will include a tiny market place where everything is vintage, recycled or handmade. Maybe even all three combined. Focusing on salvaged, repurposed and reclaimed odds and ends for your home, garden and body. Always embracing nature. Where one might find recycled copper jewelry or fun feather accessories as well as therapeutic-grade essential oils and essential waters made from our local bald Cypress trees. Also reclaimed wood furniture pieces and rusted iron found objects, for example.

Open when its open or by appointment! A funky, down-to-earth, out-of-the-box box of tin, reclaimed wood and windows. A bit random, a lot unconventional and always evolving.
