sacred copper

a copper saturated stream

a little something I have been working on...
sacred copper collection summer 2011

:: held sacred to the goddess of the ancient world for its lustrous beauty ::

I have had this inspiring pile of olde copper electrical wire
it is truly developing into something special

found here

in alchemy the symbol for copper was also the symbol for the goddess and planet Venus
the symbol is possibly a reflection of a stylized mirror because the higher cast used copper as a mirror to adore themselves
Copper was an important resource for the Romans, Greeks and other ancient peoples.
The cultural role of copper has been an important one, at first the copper itself was valued but gradually the shape and look of the copper became more important.

The seven heavenly bodies known to the ancients were associated with the seven metals known in antiquity, and Venus the goddess of love and beauty was assigned to copper.

Egyptians kept various forms of copper in their medicine chests.*

*In the ancient world copper alloys of brass and bronze were used to cook and serve in.
Water was and still is stored in copper and brass vessels to prevent growth of pathogens.

60% of copper application is in electrical wires.

It is estimated that 80% of the copper ever mined is still in use today.

::updated to shop today::
here is a little something I have been spending some time on lately
this will be an ever growing collection
as I have gathered quite a bit in the past and continue to do so

the gatherers of simple collection :: summer 2011

for the simple folk

found here

I gathered stones and remnants that I have collected over time
that was my inspiration for this simple collection

I deconstructed old remnants and combined with newer pieces
pieces I have gathered and collected but have yet to use
I decided it was time to create with what was available

a simple idea really

to gather and use from what we already have
I have found excitement and interest in what I can create with what I have accumulated
