Festivaaaal...what was captured

World music on 4 stages, crowds of people, water fountains, face paint, bubbles, GREAT friends, yummy food, bright sunshine and smiles, late night bike rides, a little tequila, many laughs and lots of dancin'!

I sure would like to get in the habit of bringing my camera along for these jam packed fun filled long weekends but this year my instagram pics and borrowed pics from my girl Roz who had her camera in those oh so silly and important moments will have to do.

Now we are gearing up for the Bazaar this Friday!

a twig with a purpose

I love this idea for plant markers.  Making the best out of what is readily available is something I'm always quite fond of. You can find them here or make you own variety.

something great Something for Wildness

"Do something for wildness and make the mountains glad" - John Muir

If you have ever had the pleasure to visit and experience even one of our great national parks then you would probably agree they are one of our countries best ideas yet.  I ask you to please watch this video and learn more about this great project. Two of my sweetest, most brilliant friends are doing 'something for wildness' and they could use a little help from us. Their genuine passion for creativity in all of its forms is honestly breathtaking to the point of tear jerking, immensely touching, truly admirable. If you would like to help 'make the mountains glad' please take a moment and maybe share a few bills if you can to kickstart something great, something for wildness!  Every little bit always helps.

National Parks are important because they help us remember who we were, who we are, and who we will be. These beautiful places help us remember what we’ve already done, and what we need to accomplish to make life better for our future generations. These wonderful historic places help us to understand the diversity of our country and how it came to be...National Parks are like pages of a scrapbook that give us good and bad memories of our land, our culture, our diversity and our being...National Parks are the icing on the cake, the chocolate chips in the cookies, the pepperoni on the pizza. We must fight for what we are most truly devoted to and show what being a country truly is. National Parks are important and we must show that they are. We are a Nation and we must show it through our National Parks. Only then can we really know who we were, are, and will become.”- 11 year old child: Ramona Leanna Watson from Flint, Michigan who was a winner for the National Park Foundation Junior Ranger essay

“In wildness is the preservation of the world.”—Henry David Thoreau

a festive crown

It's festival international time ya'll and we Cajuns are gearing up for one of our favorite weeks of the year filled with old friends and new music. Here is a do I just tried on myself and I wanted to share.  This tutorial makes it seem so easy and effortless with such a neat and clean turnout.  It was a bit of a challenge for me and mine is not nearly as neat but that's ok I'm gonna sport it anyway and try again another day maybe my crown will get a little neater (and easier) each time I try.  Here's to messy festival hair and learning new things (thanks youtube).

rag braid + chunky stone

What a great use of fabric scraps and remnants.  An even better way to use your favorite textiles.  I have a thing for small floral calico cotton reminiscent of life on a prairie and small wooden homes lit by lanterns.  I also enjoy collecting vintage feed sack cloth and I am excited to incorporate those into new jewelry designs.  While I have always been inspired by chunky, rustic, natural stone.  Wear layered together or separate and add a bohemian pop of color to any look.  This collection has just the right touch of different, it's not like much else you see.

locally salvaged copper

I really enjoy using sheets of scrap copper salvaged from the remnants left over from large home interior or exterior projects.  Feathers, chevrons, arrowheads, triangles and teardrops the littlest remnant can really become something quite beautiful.

we went on down to the Audubon Zoo

...and they all asked for you

Where's Sage?

We enjoyed a great weekend in New Orleans. We spent some quality time with my hubby's family his grandmother took us all to the zoo, it was so nice to see her have the majority of her family together. 1 of 3 of her children, 3 out of 6 of her grandchildren and all of her great-grandbabies, thats pretty special I think... and at the Audubon Zoo to top it off!
Plus, to conclude the two days of family fun we finally got a peek into my nieces new found city life. We experienced her groovy workplace Buffalo Exchange on Magazine, we enjoyed a fresh mexican dinner at her favorite local spot and then before hitting I-10 to head home I took a quick look at her tiny space she calls home.  I am so proud of her!

Evoking a mood.

Here is a new of interest.  I frequent A.M.'s beautiful blog and its nice to see another's perspective on her admirable work. She makes stunning arrangements, takes breathtaking pictures and tells a story with it all so perfectly. "Evoking a mood" thats inviting, warm and comfy.
And industry of one has much more to it too, many more talented individuals doing what they love.

catching spring

This post has caught the color and feeling of Spring for sure.  Such beautiful handmade dreamcatchers. I am dreamin' of making more myself again soon. I think it was my lil' girls 3rd birthday (she's now 7) when I last made one but there were not this pretty. These are like right out of Free People and who does not love just about everything they see in FP at least how they style it is always crazy inspiring.

bayou bohemian goes into the future back to the earth

My first fashion show in years, my first fashion show in my hometown, our first fashion show together at boho mercantile and my first iMovie ever made.  Sheesh!  This 11min. clip of the complete 45min show is just my collection but on the Fresh + Local page of the Merc site you can find a clip of each segment featuring the collections of each one of the four of us.  Enjoy the show folks!
I want to give a great big loving thanks to my dear friend Steven for capturing the event on video otherwise we would not have had this great opportunity to actually see our hard work come together and walk the runway. THANK YOU!  I would also like to give a big big thanks to our sweet and uber talented friends Chad Viator and Chad Faulk(aka Bad Chad or imagineIAM) for letting us use the very fresh + local tunes for the show.  And of course thanks to my wonderful models Jamie, Dani, Victoria, Emily, Bridget, Melissa and Lilian they did a fabulous job. To my big sis JoJo and Des at The Beauty Shop for the great dos and makeup, the long braids were so futuristic especially added to the very short haired girls...perfect, and to my brother-man Collin Galyean for being such a smooth emcee.

I am inspired by her simplicity.  I know her handcraft is not a simple task but she pulls it together and displays it so simply and it's so beautiful. Her photograpy, her styling, her craft... I adore it all!  I especially like her use of large crystal rock formations and linen wrapped blocks. And she has an inspiring group of girlfriends too like those found hereherehere and here. Young, female, professionals  doing what they love and doing it so well.
