another place to play

here is something we worked a little more on this weekend i mentioned it here before
so as this here blog of mine will stand as documented proof (i love that about it) this project began on August 13th and it still ain't done yet, but that don't bother me none can you tell...

my hubby's silly friend Guilliame walked right in the way at the wrong time

i love this rug i purchased from the sweet woman who made it when i traveled to Oaxaca, Mexico

this is really a place for mama to play but until its complete i have it set up for the kiddos
in the future  i want something like this for the kiddos
and i want to have an antique wash tub set up in here to do work with dyes and cloth

similar to these i found listed on ebay

i would also like to arrange a small space to do some printing on cloth too
it's all about the small spaces around here

by KAYA

I love this!
all in the spirit of the bazaar
little miss is inspired to create for the upcoming event
she is full of ideas of where she wants to set up her booth
she's even making her own sign and hand written business cards with my #
it's so sweet, SO SWEET

i am curious to see where this leads her in many years to come
what she will continue to be interested in and what she may just grow away from

wasteknot

so here's an idea
don't seem to be lackin' on the ideas 'round here
lets just add another to-do to the list
but i certainly think it would be a great collaboration of my passion to salvage and collect
with my hubby's passion to design combined with his master woodworking skill
all for the purpose of reducing waste
with the grand benefit of the personal joy it brings to create treasure with 'trash'
i do indeed like his idea for the name "wasteknot"...get it
like the knot in wood an element of natures wonder that always catches my eye
like the knot that binds together
and as in not, creating a great play on words to not waste
pictured are a few creations that inspire me most from this great NY based company whose vision is reincarnated furntiture

slow southern style

here is something new i am up to
writing for this New Orleans based blog
here is my debut

check it... "what we wore"
inspired by my oh so groovy girlfriends
...this is the beginning...
i would like to photograph and document their/our style
to possibly influence others to be themselves and show it in what they wear
of course being inspired by recent trends and such
but it seems to me like a recent popular and growing trend
is to just be yourself, wear what you want and take risks
combining vintage with new and conventional with unconventional

oh so lovely

3 of my favorite pieces from my 2011 vintage collection move on
a new home found for these lovely day dresses from the late 1940's
from the bayous edge in a small town in Louisiana to the mountains of North Carolina
they will certainly add a touch of vintage class to the wardrobe of one very stylish lady

mommy's little girl

months ago my niece and i frolicked around posing and snapping pictures of my collections
most of those pictures can be found here
well of course miss Kaya had to join in all the ladylike fun
i came across these again and felt the need to post
she did her own makeup and styling it's all her i just snapped the pictures
not too bad for seven years old
not that i agree with her beautiful face wearing makeup actually i am often strictly against it
but this day it was all in good creative fun and i am all for expressing your creativity at any age
it is such a pleasure (sometimes overwhelming) to watch my little girl be such a lady, naturally
it's crazy to see, as i have witnessed, some of us are just born with it
maternal instinct and feminine charm

this is one of my most favorite captures of sweet Kaya barely two years old
< she is a natural i tell ya >

i encourage you to read these very sweet 50 rules of dads of daughters you will laugh and cry
because she is daddy's little girl too
one of my favorites #43. Remember, just like a butterfly, she too will spread her wings and fly some day.
Enjoy her caterpillar years.

while on the subject of little girls i would like to dedicate this post to Roz and Collin
1 cm dilated baby Ruby is on her way any day now
after 15 years of all boys a sweet baby girl arrives
mommy, daddy and brother's little girl too

her home is her flower studio

notice the reflection of her cloud photograph collage

geez...this space i happened upon (i was guided from here) is breathtaking
nothing really amazing just simple lived in touches but my heart is racing
i absolutely love the wildness of the single blooms in random glass jars and bottles
this is something i myself do... but not enough of now
i wanted to repost every picture but instead i pinned just about every picture onto my 'home' board
and only posted most a few
enjoy more here

< goodness! i love discovering new folks and the simple magic they create. simply. >

happy Friday ya'll!

a romantic haze

this photo creates a lonesome yearning for my lovely girlfriends on the coast of California
oh how i miss them and wish the distance to travel were not so long and far
this here gal most often features photography with a romantic haze
she just recently featured one of her favorite photographers
whose work is full of this hazy romance that inspires
...honestly i want to take dreamy pictures like that

 and this

< may love and light blur all that is not right >

romantic definition 1. : consisting of or resembling a romance 2. : having no basis in fact : imaginary
3. : impractical in conception or plan : visionary 4. a : marked by the imaginative or emotional appeal of what is heroic, adventurous, remote, mysterious, or idealized

what makes a perfect weekend?

for me a perfect weekend is made
when we successfully get projects done around our home and checked off our list
our front yard, which i have jokingly referred to as the morvant junkyard, was in need of some attention
we used some of our ever growing pile of salvaged wood and 'oh i can do something with that'
to construct a fence across the front
allowing for a taller green fence in many months to come and a little more privacy from the street
there are so many more projects on our list but damn it feels good to check one off :)

we not only made some great accomplishments around the house but we had time to take in the annual rodeo too. something i have done with my dad since i was a tot  and something i still enjoy with my kiddos. with a picture perfect walk home under this amazing sky and sunset.
perfect is beautiful weather, things getting done and quality time outdoors with my family

what makes a perfect weekend in your book?

hmm...

picture found here among many beautiful arrangements of flowers and more

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else
 is the greatest accomplishment.”

“For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness.”

these here are great words to begin a year of hmm...
words to ponder, repeat and remember
words that inspire happiness while being yourself
something i want to be better and better at doing

new projects begin

i have had a few t-shirts waiting to be cut into something new and different
and printed with my new woodblocks
yesterday i put some time into working with this idea i have been wanting for months to try
pictured is the racerback tunic or mini dress
with a single hand printed stripe down center front and center back using a woodblock
woodblock printing is one of the earliest methods of printing on textiles
it is also the most simple while being one of the slowest methods
find out more about its history and origin here

once printed on cloth the block print i chose resembles lace
when looking at the carvings on the block itself i never noticed its similarity to lace
i started off simply but i have a few different design ideas i am excited to print
my own interpretation of a tribal navajo-esque design
and classic me i don't practice on random cloth i go right for it
i cross my fingers and hope for the best
be what it may

tin roof rusted

found here

there is something about rusty tin that calls to me
maybe it's that it wears its age so well
or it's that rustic texture and color
or maybe because it's rich with history and life
