a new look

I updated the images on my homepage with some of the new things I've been creatin' lately.  I am in love with the simplicity of all of these new pieces combining soft leather lace with chunky natural stones and the warm beauty of brass accents.  I have been collecting many of these crystals for years and it makes me so happy to finally be using them in such a way that feels perfect to me. A real urban cowgirl & Indian feel. Two things that have I always felt a strong connection to.

Lately...

2015. I can hardly believe it.

I have been busy making these first days of the year and it has been a pleasant way to bring in the new year.  These leather necklaces are inspired by bolos and native breastplate necklaces.  I like the warmth of the black deer skin with beautiful brass accents and chunky natural stone. I've been blessed with a few sweet custom dreamcatchers and I have enjoyed working with those materials again.  I am looking forward to much more creatin' in the year ahead.

Delight. Resilience. Risk. Great words to hold close to my heart when looking forward.

Shop Online

I have been adding some new pieces to my online shop.  As I make new things I try to offer some of them in my etsy shop.  I also have lots of new pieces at Hemline Lafayette in River Ranch if your a local folk...

I would also love to get my shop on my website off the ground. I have definitely began the process but my hands are so full with babes right now I don't get around to working on it much. But it is in the process...

I am really excited about working with leather again and in a new way.  I'm hoping to have a few black deer skin pouches out real soon too. In perfect time for the changing of the seasons as we welcome cooler days.

Spring + Summer

This is by far my favorite time of year. All the flowers are beginning to sprout back out of the fertile earth. The air is still cool but the sun is out warming things up. So much birth and growth happening all around us.  I have been inspired to get back to work in the studio nearly 6 weeks after birthing my third little munchkin.  It's quite a challenge but I am so grateful for the help of my sweet mama, who does not hesitate to come running when my littlest man begins to cry or needs burping.

I have made a much needed delivery of many new jewels to Hemline Lafayette,  I have sent a great selection of necklaces to Hemline Dallas and their earring order is in the process. I also made a few updates to bayouboho.com.

I am feeling very grateful for this time...
And I think my cowry shell collection is right in tune as the shells are a symbol of womanhood, fertility, birth and wealth.
I feel very wealthy in love and support...wishing you the same.

Simple. Tribal. Feminine.

I really love the simple touches. There is something so feminine about a great earring. The tribal elements always standout to me and inspire me.  I am always drawn to vintage chain and findings with a story, that have been around for decades and now they can make a new appearance, a new beginning.
These lovely earrings are simple yet bold while being the best of both and authentic Bayou Bohemian.

talisman. lucky charms. folklore.

A little something I've been doing.  I like these folkloric lucky charm necklaces. A talisman to be worn around your neck with simple treasures, some having ancient traditions in some cultures. Feathers to represent freedom and traveling along your right path. Tibetan prayers held sacred to some.  Buffalo and wolf teeth believed to protect from harm while holding respect for these incredible creatures.  Quartz crystal points full of power and energy, a symbol of a new age.

It is this sort of creation that is authentic Bayou Bohemian.  I am so intrigued by many different cultures and their ancient traditions.  I respect that indigenous peoples believe so whole heartedly in their specific traditions and this to me carries with it so much power. So much beauty in the folklore that lives on even after people pass. Worn as timeless adornment.

folkloric amulets

Amulet necklaces that reflect my admiration for the folklore and traditions of different native cultures.  The wolf tooth from Tibet and the buffalo tooth like those used by American Indians. Often worn as symbols of protection, good fortune or to represent status. These are my own special interpretation as I strongly respect  the story of similar adornments throughout history.  Made with love for the life lived and the life to be lived.  Folkloric Amulets.

vintage + handmade

Vintage + Handmade that's what I'm all about and this is a perfect example of mixing vintage pieces with handmade creations. In this look the cropped dolman sleeve top is sewn and hand-dyed in my studio, the necklace is made with stones I have collected that I wrapped with heavy gauge wire and hung from a great, beautiful vintage chain, the skirt is a wonderful red vintage slip with ruffle detail.  I made the dreamcatchers hanging about using vintage doilies and recycled metal circles from old crab nets used many moons ago somewhere here in bayou country. The blankets and afghans are either handmade or vintage or both.

A perfect representation of bayou bohemian.
Jewels + Metals, Leather + Stone, Cloth + Dye, Remnants + Relics.

recycled copper bracelets

February has yet to begin but it's felt like Spring around here for the last week and it is lovely.  These bracelets are perfect to welcome the warmer, brighter days. I have been inspired to make these for sometime it feels real good to get around to it.  I like them and I like making them. It takes some time to hammer, shape and finish the copper to its smooth, shiny, sealed reveal but it's becoming a sort of meditation for me. I sit in silence with my tools and practice repetition. They are certainly made with love like most I do. I think my personal favorites would be the bangle cuffs because they are so minimal and simple. That's just where I seem to be right now. I also favor the amethyst rock 1"cuff for its raw, natural beauty.  They are each special. I made them from recycled copper that I salvaged from the scrap of local builders. All of these are now available online here.

A few weeks back just before Black Friday and Shop Local Day I brought a large selection of jewelry to my favorite stockist Hemline Lafayette.  It was all displayed so pretty and had its own special place in that beautifully stocked boutique.
