making our house a home no.2

Our bathroom makeover. Slowly but surely.

We have replaced the old ceiling with aged tin and are going to rip up the vinyl rug to reveal the wood floors like in the rest of the house. We are putting 12" square slate tiles on the bottom half of the walls and around the bath. With earth pigmented plaster on the top using a specific technique called tadelakt to create a waterproof plaster. We are excited and anxious about the bathroom being completed and experimenting with this new technique but hesitant to get started due to some time constraints. Often times I feel like just jumping right in but I am bit intimidated with not knowing what might get exposed. As you can see it definitely needs lots of work.

lately...

Have a look here at what my hubby and I have been working on the last couple of days. A work in progress for over a year now finally coming together, that feels real nice.

junkyard lighting

I came across this etsy shop a minute ago its called junkyard lighting. It has a similar light to the one I mentioned yesterday for half the price plus you get the light bulb. They also have the vintage industrial mechanic lights. Made using salvaged and vintage parts. Great work!

To the max

I love these looks from anthropologie
Feminine, womanly, romantic.

There is just something about fashion inspired by the 70's that I am always drawn to.

If my mother had a restaurant...

it would look a little something like this

Enjoy more here.

This is interesting and reminds me of my mom a bit with the thrown together construction using salvaged materials in combination with mismatched furnishings and old linens. This is the Pale Blue Door and apparently it seems to be a restaurant. These particular photos are from Berlin I believe but there seems to be one in London and Buenos Aires. I am a bit confused as to if this is a constant set up or like a traveling show sort of thing but regardless it is definitely interesting and proof that anything is possible.

The skirt

mine theirs
Nearly 2 years ago now I made a couple of sample skirts from a pattern I designed inspired by the apron. I have not yet made anymore but I am eager to get to it (among many other things). I found a very similar skirt here pictured above among several other styles at their site.
For my creations I want to use thin, soft calico cottons. I also have some hemp cotton I have recently considered. Maybe use the hemp blend for the skirt and a small floral, think prairie, for the waistband and a pocket OR just the opposite...
