the lovely marigold

How lovely it is to make great use of nature for healing and more
found here

Harvested Calendula, drying to be used in handcrafted healing + moisturizing, lip + body care.  Interesting to know "Calendula has been used medicinally for centuries all over the world-The calendula is an annual flower native to the northern Mediterranean countries. Its name refers to its tendency to bloom with the calendar, usually once a month or every new moon. The term “marigold” refers to the Virgin Mary, and marigolds are used in Catholic events honoring the Virgin Mary. The Egyptians considered them to have rejuvenating properties. In the Hindu world, the flowers were used to adorn statues of gods in their temples, as well as a colorant in food, fabrics, and cosmetics, and of particular interest, in the 18th and 19th century, calendula was used to color cheese. The calendula was originally used as food rather than as an herb." This info comes from Sword+Fern a great little shop+studio on the Oregon coast that I would cherish a visit to for so many reasons.

How dreamy it would be for me to use my own homegrown flowers to color cloth.  One day. One day.

current + past

I have been a busy mama bee updating this and that. It feels so good but honestly there is so much more to do I hope to stay on this track of 'gettin' it done' when it comes to work stuff. Here's a peek at my new site an archive of my current and my past creations. A reflection of where I have come from and where I am going.  Going back through over 2 years of my designs. Have a look for yourself HERE and tell me what ya think.

My biggest thanks ya'll xoxo!

the mercantile

This is still a place I dream of.  A gathering of local makers, local farmers, local players, local do-ers.  There are lots of changes happening presently while we nurture our families, our dreams, our health.  Life is busy.  We won't completely forget this though. We will return to it. Sooner than later. Until then we only GROW. Grow our collections. Grow to better understand what it is we want to do. Grow to be better at what we do. Grow with the changes. Grow with the flow.

the beach

Our time for rest and relaxation, with the warm sand between our toes and fingers. Where the sound of the surf soothes our minds and hearts, and we get plenty of vitamin D. The kiddos have a freedom to do what they want as they want (mostly) while we take turns watching over them.  We each get a refreshing amount of needed me time.  It's always a special weekend we all look forward to.
I did not take many pictures this time. I was preoccupied with less exciting happenings but here are a few takes from our long weekend on the beach 9.2012.

I took more pictures waiting for and riding the ferry then I did over the other three days. Till next time!

fall returns

As we settle into our school year routine, the air cools and the leaves begin to slowly fall I am slowly getting back to work in the studio.  I have many new ideas to create like rag braid wrap bracelets, comfy, organic palazzo pants and vine wrapped dream catchers among others.  I have a new collection of beautiful rocks and crystals waiting to be something beautiful and worn to make someone feel beautiful.  I am working on my TRI.bal collection for f/w. Copper diamonds with crystal points, pyrite and leather remnants.  A variety of TRIangles to adorn the ear.
I also have several curtain panels to complete. My part in helping to make some of my dearest friends brand new house a home.  Its a brand new house to them but its an authentic Acadian style home thats been around for generations. They have brought it back to life in their own way and after months of preparation they are moving in this week.  I am so happy for them and I happy for me that they will be so close now.
A current project I am excited about...a much needed purge. I will successfully clean my closet space (home+studio). This is a project that feels like it lives on forever but this time I want to make an impressive dent in all this stuff. There are so many things I have held onto for way to long and I am finally ready to discard much of it.  Lighten the load and organize the chaos.  The little I have done so far feels so good.  I am thinking of a closet sale...like a $1 a piece?!

Lets not forget the important shop update I need/want to do so badly.  I will set aside the consuming time to photograph, edit and upload that overwhelming overflow of creations waiting for a home.

HAPPY EARLY FALL YA'LL!

lately

We just returned from our biannual beach retreat. A beautiful weekend of sand, sun and surf.  The kiddos had a blast as always. The beach has a calming effect on my lil hunk and it's so nice to see him calm. He loves the sand and the crabs and the pool of course.  In all of the beauty and calm a little unhappiness showed itself for me but I pushed am pushing through it.  I am so thankful for my two healthy, beautiful and bright littles.  The bits of sad and less fortunate events that present themselves in our lives bring us closer to ourselves.  Brings us closer to our loved ones while gratitude for what good fortune and blessed health we have overflows because these things are oh so precious.  Though sometimes a process of events can be an ultimate challenge and what I call "a brain fuck" especially when dragged out over weeks of unknowing.  We make it through. With the reward of being that much stronger when its all said and done. Even if we don't completely understand why.
