indigo skies + summer sunsets part 1

I did it! Ya'll the show was fantastic. Just as I hoped and maybe even expected a little bit. Here's some pictures I took when one of my beautiful models came over to try on her look the Monday before the show. I had her put on each look for a quick picture moment and below I show them in the order they walked the runway...

Each piece focuses on comfort and style at the same time. That's my favorite part about making clothes.

only a peek

It is Saturday now and I am still in the Big Easy enjoying a tiny vacation with my family. So I have only a peek for you today. One of my favorite captures of 'the look'. Many many more to come...

Off to a quick swim before we check out and head out to stroll the streets of the French Quarter.

The Thursday night I have been quite busy working towards for the last few weeks is here and before I know it will be said and done.  I think I might actually be more excited than nervous (though as I even type that my nerves escalate). Anxiety always gets the best of me no matter how hard I try to deter it.  I tell myself how it's all for fun, let go and let be, it's gonna be great.  All in an effort to relax and enjoy the process without the dread and fear that always tries to sneak in and steal my calm. BUT I proceed with courage, ambition and inspiration.
So with all that said...

When I came across this and shared with my hubby he got so excited...

Cooking on a log. 

Cut the log evenly on both sides so it stands up freely. Then cut it into vertical segments most of the way down the length of the log. Stuff in some newspaper into the cracks as deep as you can get it, leaving a wick at the bottom, and light it up. That's all there is to it—the log burns from the inside out, and you have a simple, handmade stove....

a happy 4th

We spent yesterday around our village. Young cousins came to play, they all stayed in the backyard playing in the pool and turning the yard into a mushy mess but they had lots of fun.  I was happy to get many things done in my studio which felt great. As the evening neared I even made the time to clean my jewelry work table which was completely necessary because I am usually too busy with a specific project to take the time to clean ya know.  It's funny how it's the days that most folk have off that I can get the most done. Papas home and there is so much going on to entertain the kiddos that Mama can slip away into my element and loose myself in creativity and my list of need-tos.  And just as darkness neared we took the short convenient drive out to my mom's cypress cabin on the Bayou Teche to enjoy an hour of lighting up the sky. A perfect ending to a happy day.

This picture was a total accident. A happy surprise.  I was having trouble with my camera and it was so dark out I could not even see the settings but just before giving up I aimed at the sky and snapped a few shots. This magic happened.

Do any of you ever notice how things often happen juuuust before you give up?

a summer treat

Mama J's garden fresh homemade pesto.  Add all the ingredients the recipe (pictured above) calls for into the blender and puree.  Add sea salt and cayenne to taste, a half a teaspoon of each (eyed not actually measured) worked perfect for me this time. I added my fresh made pesto to some pasta and topped with herbed goat cheese...YUM!  You can eat your pesto with crackers, fresh bread, use it as a sauce for homemade pizza or a salad dressing. The options are nearly boundless and it's so rewarding to create a delicious meal using bits from your own garden.

note // the original recipe called for pine nuts & pepper but being a belle of the south I used pecans & cayenne
