hmm...

"Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffective, concerning all acts of initiative (and creation). There is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself - then providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it! Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it…BEGIN IT NOW"  - Goethe

These words mean a lot to me because I am someone who can often detour from commitments because I do not want to commit myself to something and be obligated to attend or participate.  It has most to do with this 'saying but not doing' quality I don't favor in others and do not want to be part of myself.  Commitment is an obligation it is a responsibility I do not often take lightly, you are pledging to dedicate that allotted time to applying yourself to a particular purpose or event.  Maybe for me there's a bit of a fear of failure that lies beneath? But these words above offer up a beautiful truth to making commitments "all sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred - a whole stream of events - no man could have dreamed would come his way"
I like that! It's nice to think that when you honestly, truly, wholeheartedly dedicate yourself to something the spirit, the universe, the creator is on our side to help.  Kinda makes you want to start making more commitments.   Uncage our possibilities!

This one definition of the word alone really informs me of why I may be so apprehensive to commit to projects and plans...an engagement or obligation that restricts freedom of action.  I really take it seriously maybe too much :).
